WILD DOG RESCUE LAUNCHES SUPER PETS CAMPAIGN
FENNVILLE - For three adoptable dogs at Wild Dog Rescue, the start of the new year simply marks yet another year without an owner or a home. To combat this, the rescue is launching a Super Pets campaign to promote the adoption of long-term resident dogs that are struggling to find homes.
These “super pets” are available for a reduced adoption fee. Potential owners also have the opportunity to bring the dog home for a sleepover, which allows them to try out the dog in their home for several days before making a final adoption commitment.
One of these dogs is Willis, a six year old lab mix, that has lived at the rescue on several separate occasions. He originally came in as a stray, missing an eye from an unknown trauma and completely hairless due to a massive skin infection. Once healthy, he was adopted and became extremely bonded to his owner. The two of them were the only family each other had, and they lived together for two years.
Then, his owner developed a terminal illness, which forced him into a nursing home, and Willis returned to the rescue. In December, his owner returned home, with the assistance of hospice care, and a visibly excited Willis had one last opportunity to say goodbye to his family. Now back at the rescue, staff and volunteers can tell that Willis is unhappy and mourning the loss of his owner. He is in desperate need of a new family.
Two other dogs have also spent many months without homes. Kira, a four year old Japanese Kai, has been at the rescue for eighteen months, longer than any other dog. She loves people and playing fetch but doesn't get along well with other animals. She simply needs a home where she is the only pet.
Tanner, a one year old fox terrier, is blind, and this disability has prevented his adoption. There are many resources available to help blind dogs adjust to a normal life in a home.
Wild Dog Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works with local rescue shelters and groups to rescue abused, abandoned, or neglected animals. By providing veterinary care, shelter, and love, the rescue ensures every animal is given a good chance at a happy life in a permanent home.
