Paying Water, Sewer Bills

About Your Water Bill:
In the City of Fennville, water is billed on a quarterly basis, for the last three months of actual use unless there is a need to estimate your bill. These bills are mailed on the 15th of January, April, July and October and are due on the 15th of the following month.

Readiness fees are charged when the City is standing ready to provide water. These fees are charged whether or not the water is turned on or not.

Deposits of $150.00 are required from new customers and may be assessed against customers who are chronically late in paying the bill. If the customer has established a good
payment history with the City by paying their water bills on time, the deposit is refunded after one year.

If water is turned off for non-payment, a $50 fee will be assessed against the customer’s account and must be paid before the water is turned back on. Requests that water be turned off for construction or because a house is vacant are not assessed a $50 turn on fee if the bill (consisting of the readiness fee) continues to be paid on time.

Who gets a Water/Sewer Bill?
Water bills are in the name of the property owner. Some landlords prefer the tenants (renters) transfer their name onto the water bill. That can be done as long as the tenant (renter) has paid the $150.00 water deposit.

Why do we require a Water deposit?
A Water deposit is required from all new residents moving into the City. This is your way of establishing credit with the City. Water deposits are refunded after one (1) year of on-time payments or unless the resident moves out of the City. If you move before the year is up we would take a final reading of your meter and minus the final bill from your deposit, you would then receive a check for the excess amount.

Where is the Bill Mailed?
The Water bill can be mailed wherever the water customer indicates as a mailing address. The bills are mailed via U.S. Postal Service. The City is not responsible for the delivery of bills, nor are we responsible for bill lost in the mail, that is an issue between the customer and the Postal Service.

When are the Water Billings?
The City bills for water/sewer on a quarterly basis, the specific dates of billing are as follows:
January 15th, April 15th, July 15th and October 15th. The City gives thirty (30) days from the date of the billing date as the due date.

What if I get behind on my Water Bill?
As stated above we give thirty (30) before your bill becomes delinquent. After the thirty day due date the City applies penalties to your bill and will mail you a late notice giving seven (7) days from the date of the notice to pay your water bill. If after the seven days expires we then send 72 hour notices. After the 72 hours have expired we then have no choice but to shut off water service.

How to get my Water turned back on?
If your water is turned off for non-payment, when the account is paid in full we will turn the water back on at the indicated service address. NOTE: The City will require a $50.00 turn on fee before water is restored.
