March 5, 2010
On Thursday,
the Fennville Black-
hawks Boys Basket-
ball team travelled to
Lawrence to play in
the SAC Champion-
ship game. The
Hawks, winners of the
SAC North Division,
finished the regular
season in the same
fashion as they started the season with a decisive 72-54 win. At the beginning of
the season, the Hawks defeated Lawrence, 102-87 in the season opener. Now
the Hawks must play Lawrence for a third time in the District opener on Monday in
Hartford.
The Hawks started out the game with a fast pace
and led after the first quarter, 19-10. In the second
quarter the Tigers kept even with the Blackhawks as
the Hawks held a 30-22 half time lead.
In the third quarter the Hawks defense held the
Tigers to only 7 points and led going into the final
quarter 45-28. As in the first game, the Lawrence
Tigers didn’t fold and started hitting three pointers.
In the championship contest, the Tigers put up 26 points
to put pressure on the Hawks. The Hawks responded
and outscored the Tigers by a point to record the win.
Hustle and Harmony was very evident as 5
Blackhawks scored in double figures led by freshman
Peter Alfaro’s 14 points. Sophomore Wes Leonard
scored 13 points while adding 13 rebounds. Senior point guard Bobby Lawrence
who directed the offense scored 12 points. Junior Reid Sexton’s three point
baskets seemed to come after a big Tiger basket, scored 12 points. Junior
Forward Adam Siegel added 11 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
Congratulations to Head Coach Ryan Klingler and the entire Blackhawk staff
on a well deserved victory. “It’s a Great day to be a Blackhawks”!
