A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR DAN RASTALL

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

With 2009 is fast approaching its end.
These have been tough times for a lot of us
as we deal with this economic downturn but
we have survived and we look forward to
2010.  We have seen some businesses
leave us while others have moved into town.
We welcome them and wish them nothing
but success.  I would also like to encourage you to visit our local businesses.  They
can’t succeed without your support.

Two Thousand Nine found the City enjoying its first Winterlude Festival and its first
Fourth of July Festival in many years.  The Goose Festival also celebrated its Silver
Anniversary.  The Chamber of Commerce has continued its successful Tuesdays in
the Park concert series.  The American Cancer Society Lakeshore Chapter held its
first ever Relay for Life fundraiser at Fennville High School this year and it was a
success.  We look forward to seeing Winterlude and the Fourth of July festivals
growing this year.  Of course, the Goose Festival will be back and the Relay for Life
Lakeshore event will once again be held in Fennville.  All of these events are a
wonderful way to enjoy our community and spend some time with your family and
friends.

Two Thousand Ten looks to be a challenging year for the City of Fennville.  We are
currently working on three major grant projects.  The first is a streetscape project
for Main St/M-89.  The DDA is the driving force behind this grant to improve the
appearance of Main St, hopefully slow traffic down, and make downtown more
pedestrian friendly.  The DDA is also involved in an art project on Main St.  The
object is to replace the plywood covering the second story windows of our downtown
businesses with artwork.  The first set is done and looks wonderful.  The DDA is
also working hard to fill the empty storefronts downtown as well as development the
empty lot on Main St.

The second grant will replace the water and sewer infrastructure and resurface
Maple St from M-89 to Landsburg Road.  Maple St. is a major road that serves the
Fennville Public Schools, Police and Ambulance services, businesses on 3rd St.,
Paradise Park and many residents.

Finally, with the third grant, the City is working with Birds Eye Foods, Clyde
Township, Manlius Township and the Michigan Department of Agriculture to bring
city water to our friends and neighbors east of the City limits who are affected by the
water contamination.  In conjunction with the water extension, this project also
includes an iron filtration system for the city.  This will greatly improve the quality of
water the City offers.

Two Thousand Nine was a challenging year.  2010 will be as well but we will face
those challenges together as a community.  I would like to thank our City Clerk, City
Treasurer, City Superintendent and our DPW members for all that you do on a daily
basis for the city.  I would also like to thank the many people who volunteer their
time to serve on various commissions in the city.  Without your help we wouldn’t be
where we are today.  Each and every one of us makes Fennville what it is.  Each
and every one of us will shape the Fennville of the future.  I encourage each and
every one of you to make a difference.  The city usually has openings on various
Commissions: The City Commission, the Board of Review, the Planning
Commission, the DDA, the DDRC, the Brownfield Authority, the Board of Appeals,
and various Festival Committees.  Please contact City Hall if you would like to serve
on one of these boards.  Together we can make our community stronger.

I hope you and your families had a safe and happy 2009 and I wish nothing but the
best for you in 2010.

Thank you,
Dan Rastall
Mayor, Fennville
